Ratenice lies about 1 km east of Pečky. The nearest railway station is in Pečky. The first written record of the village dates to 1340.

The Church of St James the Greater stands on the southern edge of the village green. It was originally a late Romanesque gallery church dating from the third quarter of the 13th century. The nave ceiling is decorated with a painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary by Adolf Liebscher, created in 1912–13.
