Církvice lies about 5 km east of Kutná Hora. The municipality comprises the two parts, Církvice and Jakub. In 2025, it had approximately 1,312 inhabitants.

The first written record of Církvice in the Kutná Hora region dates to 1276. The Church of St Lawrence in Církvice was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1684, and its tower dates from 1679. The Romanesque Church of St James in the village of Jakub, part of Církvice, dates from the 12th century and has been open to the public again since April 2022.
