Choťovice lies about 17 km north-east of Kolín. The Žehuňský rybník runs along the northern edge of the municipality’s territory. The first mention of the municipality dates from 1357.

The early Baroque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary dates from 1680 to 1685. It received a pseudo-Gothic façade between 1859 and 1864 and is a protected cultural monument. The municipal office is housed in a former school building renovated in 1999–2000, which also hosts cultural and social events. Since 2013, Hotel Na Farmě has operated as an agritourism hotel with a restaurant and its own farm.
